Raising money by a car boot sale

have a garage sale for a fun fundraising day Get rid of unwanted items and raise money at the same time. Ask friends and family to donate their unwanted items as well, and increase your profit.

Make sure that you have lots of information about the charity you are supporting. The more intereted they are in your charity then the more likely they are to buy items or to give a donation. You could even invite people from the charity to attend during the day, they should know what to say about the charitable cause that you are supporting!

Of course you don't have to hold the actual car boot sale yourself. You can simply attend a local car boot sale, by yourself or possibly as part of a group with other cars. Try to keep the vehicles together. Partly because it makes the day more enjoyable for friends to have their pitches together, and partly because it highlights the charity that people are raising money for.

Make sure that there are at least two people always present at each vehicle. Security is an issue, you can lose products or personal items (even the cash box) if there is only one person working and they get distracted or are too focused on one potential customer.

Some considerations for participating in a boot sale

The first is to make sure that you are a genuine private trader. If you are a commercial trader or behave as a commercial trader then you need to be aware that certain laws will apply to activities as a car boot trader.

I strongly advise you to check the following guidance leaflet from trading standards click here, in order to protect yourself from any unwanted consequences of your car boot sale activities.

The main point is to have a fun day

Please tell us about your car boot sale and how it raised money for your charity.
